Beautiful Insallation in Marietta, GA

We had the pleasure of working with a great couple in Marietta, GA to outfit their new pool area.  Greg Morgan, Kolo Collection designer, worked with the home owners to select the furniture and fabrics.  The end result was spectacular.  All of the furniture with the exception of the dining chairs were from Royal Botania and the umbrellas were from TUUCI.

Brown Jordan – Venetian

Here are a few pics from “phase 1″ at a Buckhead residence.  It features Brown Jordan (Venetian), Perennials fabric, Galtech umbrella, and teak occasional tables.

Mixing it up – Ipe & Metal

This installation shows a combination of Ipe from Jensen Leisure and red metal chairs from EMU’s Round collection.  Like so many of the great local designers,  Lauri Stainback is great at mixing materials to create a look that is unique for her clients.

Coast Action Chairs – Comfort and Style

One of the best sellers year in and year out at Kolo Collection is the Coast Action Chair from Brown Jordan.  The powdercoated aluminum frame is paired together with a parabolic mesh that is as comfortable as a cushioned chair without any foam or fabric.  If you have ever sat on the Herman Miller Aeron office chair you know what we are talking about.   At this Atlanta installation, the 4 chairs are around a Brown Jordan chat table with a TUUCI 8.5′ hexagon umbrella.

Ansley Park Contemporary Home

Greg Morgan from Kolo Collection worked with the homeowners of this new Ansley Park home to create a unique look with several custom tables and an amazing sectional from DEDON.   With a 106″ custom concrete table and sleek chairs from EMU, there is also plenty of room for al fresco dining.

A Great Mix of Materials in Tifton, GA

This Spring we had the pleasure of working with a great couple from Tifton, GA.  Their home has several exterior areas for dining, lounging and relazing.  A team from Kolo Collection traveled to Tifton to meet with the homeowners and then worked extensively to come up with the look they desired.  Check out the results below.

Teak Cleaning 101

It is Spring which means “Spring Cleaning”.  If you own teak furniture, now is time to get it cleaned up and ready for the season ahead.  The Martin household (co-owners of Kolo Collection) have lots of teak and this past Sunday it all got cleaned.  Below are step by step instructions on how to do it.  It is not that hard so just get out there and do it!

  1. Tools:  Nothing fancy is needed for this job.  A nylon bristle scrub brush, bucket of warm water with a dishwasher tablet dissolved (remove the rinsing agent if there is one), hose and sprayer.  DSCN0375Note:  If you have narrow slats you want to clean you might want to get a long & skinny cleaning brush like the one I found at Ace (it is a refrigerator coil brush).
  2. Preparation: Remove all the furniture from your deck or patio.  DSCN0360A drive way is a perfect spot to place it.  Bonus – this is the perfect time for powerwashing your deck or patio!
  3. Wet It:  Hose down a couple pieces at a time getting the whole piece wet.
  4. Scrub It:  Dunk the scrub brush in the water-detergent mixture and start scrubbing with the grain.  You will see the dirt start coming off right away.DSCN0374
  5. Rinse It:  Once the piece is clean then hose it off and check to see that you got all the surface dirt off.

After the piece is dry, you will see that a clean piece of teak will have much of the silver patina of the teak has been removed.  The silver patina will come back in a few weeks as compared to new teak that takes several months to “silver out”.

It is our position that oil is not necessary to be put on your teak for two reasons.  One is that good teak is full of oil and because of that it is naturally preserved.  The second is that oil attracts more dirt to the surface of your teak.  There are products out there that claim to be good for your teak that can actually do a lot of harm.  I have seen furniture after a so called “teak oil” was applied that had turned black.  For some great products for the care of your teak as well as teak sealer, check out Semco Products

If teak cleaning is “not your thing”, then we recommend hiring a professional.  A professional can not only clean and restore but also fix any minor damage or issues.  Here are two for you to consider.  Kristina Harbeke, Forever Wood, 678-721-7997 / kharbeke@peoplepc.com and Todd Eittreim, Earth Born Teak Care, 404-552-1004 / trespin7wings@gmail.com.
